Dear Montessori Friends and Families,
When we think about living our mission to collaborate with families to nurture the minds and the spirits of infants and toddlers, Noble and Loyal come to mind. Noble and his mom are very special to Sweet Pea Montessori. They attended parent-infant class and Noble was the first student enrolled at Sweet Pea Montessori. Although Noble recently graduated from our toddler program his younger brother, Loyal, who started as an infant is now part of our toddler community. Loyal’s new normal includes participating in our virtual morning circle time, and his mom participates in our evening family video chats. They also participate in our material-lending program. We are honored to serve children like Noble and Loyal and are committed to be a consistent support for families like theirs and many more through and beyond the pandemic.
In 2018, Mary, Beka, and Ann, three dedicated Montessorians brought a beautiful and unique vision to life. With many years serving and being a part of a diverse community, their vision was to create an inclusive and diverse urban Montessori school available to all children, especially for the youngest and most impressionable.
We have so much to celebrate. We’ve worked with 50 families through our infant and toddler care and Parent-Infant classes. We’ve remained open, committed to supporting essential workers in our community. We received amazing news that our Payment Protection Program loan was approved, which will ensure our financial stability for the next couple months!
We are both facing and responding to the realities of COVID-19 in our community. We see reduced enrollment and discontinued or reduced tuition payments due to changes in families’ financial situations. In response Sweet Pea Montessori has decreased its staff, supported teachers to access unemployment resources, and applied for local grants. Schools like ours serving infants and toddlers are financially challenged due to the availability of scholarships for this age group and strict qualifying criteria.
We are also thoughtfully planning for the future. What it will take for Sweet Pea Montessori to support all our children is $12,000 by the end of August, 2020. You can make a tax-deductible donation by:
- Sending a check payable to Sweet Pea Montessori
- Visiting Give at HOME MN. May 1-8 is a week of giving to nonprofits like Sweet Pea Montessori.
- Give a matched donation through your employer if your employer has a donation matching program.
We sincerely thank you and send you wishes of hope and good health,
With Gratitude and Hope,
All of us at Sweet Pea Montessori
